2008-05-30	Congratulations Maroon Winterguard	Winter Guard International has announced its first round of promotions from the 2008 season. All teams that make finals are reviewed for potential promotion. I am thrilled to announce that the WHS Maroon Winter Guard has been promoted to Open Class . They become one of only four teams currently in Open Class from North Carolina and one of only five to have ever achieved this honor. Congratulations to these student performers and to Ms. Shannon Proctor and the guard staff for this remarkable achievement.

2008-04-07	Maroon Winterguard Takes 1st Place	Congratulations to the Wakefield HS Maroon Winter Guard for their performance at the Winter Guard International Power Regional Championship in Tampa, Florida at The Sun Dome at USF. Competing against 33 other Scholastic A teams from across the southeast including three other regional champions, the Wakefield team earned first place by the large margin of nearly 2 full points. The Wakefield Maroon team is ranked 2nd going into next week's World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. In addition, the Wakefield Independent Team, comprised of WHS alumni, finished 3rd in Tampa in Independent A competition and is ranked 20 going into next week's World Championships.

2008-03-03	Varsity Baseball	The Wakefield Varsity Baseball Team evened up their record at 1 and 1 with an 11 to 5 victory over Northern Durham High School on Saturday. Clayton Daniels put the Wolverines on the board early with an opposite field, two-run homer in the top of the first and Wakefield never looked back. Brian Yeung pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win. On the day, Daniels went 2 for 3 reaching base 4 times, driving in 3 runs, and scoring 2 runs. Yeung went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, reaching base 5 times, driving 2 runs, scoring 2 runs and stealing a base. Chris "The Dirt-Dog" Brown reach base 3 times with a hit and 2 walks and scored 3 times. Jeremy Dowdy went 2 for 4 with a double and driving in 3 runs and stealing a base on the day. Brice Hursey and JP Riggleman also each stole a base in the game. On the mound, Brian Yeung, Even Smith, and Clayton Daniels limited Northern to just 5 hits on the day. Behind the mound, the Wolverine nine did not commit an error and had some key fielding plays to shutdown the Northern offense. Wakefield returns to action this Tuesday, March 5, when Northern travels to Wakefield for a rematch. The first pitch is at 4 PM. (See the attached box score for more details.)
2008-02-29	Orchestra	The Wakefield orchestras would like to invite you to our Pre-Festival Concert this coming Tuesday night, March 4, 2008 at 7:00pm. The concert will be held in the WHS auditorium, doors opening at 6:45. All admission is free. The WHS and WMS orchestras will be traveling to Fayetteville University immediately following our spring break to perform for a panel of adjudicators who will score us on our musical abilities for our selected repertoire. This experience is our "EOG" and provides great feedback from other professionals regarding the progress of our musical ensembles. Three ensembles will perform Tuesday evening. The WMS Full Orchestra includes string and band instruments and will play two selections from the Grade III Festival list. The WMS String Orchestra will perform one selection from the Grade IV list, and the WHS String Orchestra will perform three selections from the Grade V list. These students have been working diligently since the beginning of this semester. While we still have another three weeks to prepare this material for our Fayetteville performance, this is a culmination of our work up to this point. Please come out to support our music ensembles.
2008-02-29	Live Green	Seminars 11am and Noon 1. Xeriwhat? with David Lee - Room 200 David is just a plain out plant geek. His passion for plants and his knowledge will knock your Crocs off. This seminar will explain the theory and functionality of xeriscaping (garden design using plants that require little water). David’s lecture will fuse his sense of humor with great tips on how to still plant even when there is a drought. Did we mention that using his methods will require little maintenance, too? Sounds like a winner. 2. Waterin’ Done Right with Patrick Freeman of Bland Landscaping- Room 204 So maybe Patrick won’t show you how to do a rain dance, but he will teach you how to properly irrigate plants. Often, homeowners tend to over water. Plants are survivors and Patrick will show you how to responsibly irrigate and ensure that with very little water your plants can still thrive. 3. Floralicious with Venetia Gentzler “Design Diva”- Room 302 In this hands-on class, Venetia will guide you through the ease of making that perfect centerpiece you always wished you could make. She will show you the latest trends in using cacti and cheap grocery store flowers for that “Martha Stewart watch out!” centerpiece that all your guests will adore. 4. I’ve Got Worms with WHS Horticulture Students- Room 314 Learn about vermicomposting. Yeah, worm poop… who knew it was garden gold? This stuff is great for your plants. You can take kitchen scraps, give it to the worms, let ‘em poop it out and then put the goods on your plants. We will even have free Red Wiggler worms for you to take home! This is very kid friendly, too. Seminars 1pm and 2pm 5. Functional Beauty: Forever Color in the Garden with Michele McClave, Bland Landscaping- Room 316 Michele is a horticultural artist. She creates containers that P. Allen Smith would die for. During this workshop, she will demonstrate how to create a container that will flourish throughout the seasons. Did we mention that it is super easy to water a container with dirty water from your house? Grab your bucket from the shower and get a container because you are ready to get growin’. 6. Makin’ Paper with my Peeps with Jodi Riedel, WHS Agricultural Education Teacher- Room 316 Everybody’s doin’ it… making recycled papers. Now, you can too. Plus, what’s cooler is your’s will have plant parts in it and even seeds. When you take your paper home, you can make it into a card, give it to someone special and say, “Don’t throw it away… plant it!” 7. Daylilies: A Lazy Gardener’s Pal with the Raleigh Daylily Society- Room 318 Can’t think of the perfect plant? Duh, it’s a Daylily. Not only does this plant require little care or water, but some of them bloom all summer. Not only that, there is a Daylily out there for everybody. Find out what Daylily is your soul mate at this wonderful seminar chocked full of Daylily gurus. 8. Good Greens with Liz Driscoll, NCSU Extension- Room 2222 Liz will amaze you with how she fuses her passion for horticulture into her home kitchen. 2008-02-27	Attention Sophomores:	Friday Fairs are a great way to develop networking skills and attain contacts for potential Graduation Project Mentors. Every student who plans to graduate in 2010 must have a mentor who does not work at Wakefield High School to assist with completion of the graduation project. Will you be ready? Eighty career professionals have been on our campus the past four weeks during the Friday Fairs. Four more fairs will occur. Take a few minutes and talk with potential mentors during your lunch period. Now is the time to act!
2008-02-25	Winter Guard Teams Ranked Nationally	Congratulations to the Wakefield Winter Guard program for its performance this weekend at Winter Guard International Regional Championship in Trumbull, Connecticut. The WHS Maroon and Silver teams performed as did Wakefield Independent (which is comprised of WHS Alumni). In a remarkable accomplishment, all three teams made finals. This is the 2nd year in a row that this has occured for us. Both of the WHS teams compete in Scholastic A Class and Wakefield Independent competes in Independent A Class. The Silver team finished 8th and the Maroon team won the regional. Wakefield Indpendent finished 2nd. This was the 2nd Regional Championship for Maroon and the 3rd for the program in the last 2 seasons. After four weeks of competition the Maroon team is ranked #2 in the nation and Wakefield Independent is ranked #8 in the nation .
2008-02-25	Band Festival 2008 Thurs. 2/27	The Wakefield Bands will present its Festival! 2008 concert on Thursday at 7:00 in the WHS Auditorium. The event will feature performances by Wind Ensemble, Concert Band I and Concert Band II as we finish our preparations for NCMEA Band Festival (the equivalent of our EOCs). This concert is a chance to perform our program for the home audience and is kind of a practice test as we invite adjudicators in to evaluate us and to give us feedback on how to continue to improve. The concert is FREE and open to the public.
2008-02-25	Chorus Honors	The North Carolina Music Educators Association Eastern District 1 Solo and Small Ensemble was held here at Wakefield High School. The Wakefield Advanced Women's Chorale received a SUPERIOR rating (95.5) and the Wolerine Chamber Singers received an EXCELLENT rating (86.5). In addition, all 5 soloists that participated on Friday, received Superior Ratings. Congratulations, Mr. Mullinax, ensembles, and soloists.
2008-02-25	Another annoucement for seniors	There are 11 Wakefield scholarships being offered this year by the PTSA. The applications will be available in Student Services on February 29. The scholarship applications are due to Mr. Rob Clark on April 11, 2008. 2008-02-13	Congratulations to Aaron Robinson	Aaron was selected from more than 200 auditions from across the country to be one of the 8 finalists for the UNC-Chapel Hill Kenan Music Fellows. This program is in its second year and is modeled after the Morehead Scholars program. The winners will receive a full scholarship as well as have enrichment activities with guest artists. Aaron and the other finalist will have to go through about a interview and performance situation on campus at UNC in order that the 8 finalists may be paired down to the 4 winners. Aaron is a tubists in the Wakefield Bands and has served as brass captain on band council for two years. He has been a member of the NC All-State Honors Band and All-State Orchestra. The Wakefield Bands are extremely proud of Aaron and the fact that we have had a finalist in each of the first two years of the Kenan Fellows program. Our finalist last year, Daniel Hammond, was one of the initial four recipients of the award.

2008-02-11	Congratulations Winter Guard	Congratulations to all four of the Wakefield Winter Guard Teams on their performance on Saturday at the Atlantic Indoor Association event at West Johnston High School. In their first performance of the season the Wakefield Middle School team finished first in the middle school division. Also, in their first performance of the season the Wakefield High School Silver team finished 2nd in their division (scholastic A-2), and earned a score high enough to be promoted into the highest level of local A class, Scholastic A-1. Competing in its first local show, the Wakefield High School Maroon team had an amazing performance and finished first in the Scholastic A-1 division. Also competing in its first local show, the Wakefield High School Independent team finished first in the Independent A division.

2008-02-04	Congratulations Cheerleaders	Our JV cheerleading team won 1st place in the Large JV Division this weekend at the Wake County Cheerleading Competition. The Varsity Cheerleaders won 1st place in the Small Varsity division at Saturday's Wake County Cheerleading Competition. These are huge accomplishments, and well deserved.
2008-02-04	Congratulations Maroon Winter Guard!	Congratulations to the Maroon Winter Guard Team on its performance at the Winter Guard International Regional Championship in Richmond on Saturday. The team finished third in the Scholastic A class and after the first weekend of competitions Is ranked #7 in the nation. In addition, our Independent Guard (which is comprised of WHS alumni) won the Independent A class and is tied for #1 in the nation currently. All four teams (WHS Maroon, WHS Silver, WMS, and Wakefield Independent) will perform at our first local show this Saturday at West Johnston HS.

2008-01-04	Attention Seniors	Keep in mind that if you change your schedule for the spring semester it is your responsibility to notify your college of these changes. UNC Chapel Hill sent counselors this message ,"All admitted students, deferred students and regular notification applicants must notify UNC in writing or through email if they are considering a schedule change. Requests will be reviewed by the admissions committee. We strongly recommend that admitted students and deferred students refrain from making any changes to their schedule without our permission."

2007-11-05	Wakefield Band takes top honors at Cary	The Wakefield HS Marching Band completed its 2007 competitive season at Cary HS and the 49th Annual Cary Band Day on Saturday. The band was performing its production "The Secret Life of Daydreams", an original composition commissioned for them. Competing in class 4A, the band earned top honors in all captions and 1st Place in their class. In addition, the band placed 2nd on the day regardless of class. The band also performed in the annual Cary Band Day parade where they finished 3rd.
2007-10-24	Orchestra Concert	The Wakefield Middle School Advanced Orchestra and the Wakefield High School Orchestra would like to invite you to our first performance of the year, Thursday the 25th at 7:30PM in the WMS auditorium. 2007-10-16	Band Takes First at West Johnston	The Wakefield High School Marching Band continued its successful season on Saturday night with its performance in Class 4A at the West Johnston High School Marching Band Invitational. Performing its production The Secret Life of Daydreams the group earned first place honors in its class for Music Performance, Visual Performance, Overall Effect and Color Guard. In addition they finished 2nd in percussion and drum major. The group was 1st in its class overall and 2nd on the day regardless of class. The band will take next weekend off before traveling to Long Island, New York for the Bands of America Regional Championship at Hofstra University on October 27. They will finish their season the following weekend in Cary at Cary Band Day.

2007-10-08	North Carolina School of Science and Math Informational Meeting	Students who are interested in applying to the North Carolina School of Science and Math are invited and encouraged to attend the informational meeting this Wedensday, Oct. 10 at 6pm in WHS media center. A representative from NCSSM will be presenting. NCSSM is a residential public high school located in Durham that attracts the state’s most accomplished young minds. 2007-10-01	Kudos to the WHS Marching Band	The Wakefield HS Marching Band opened its competitive season on Saturday, September 29 at Clayton HS. Performing its 2007 production, "The Secret Life of Daydreams", and competing in Class AAA, the ensemble earned first place honors in all captions and first place band in Class AAA. The ensemble earned second place overall on the day regardless of class. 2007-09-21	VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS VOICE OF DEMOCRACY PROGRAM	This is an essay contest for all students in grades 9 – 12. Participants could earn scholarship amounts from $1,000 - $16,000. 2007-09-21	CFNC	Wakefield HS is participating in the CFNC College Application week Nov 14-16th. Seniors will be receiving information in advisory Friday 9/21 and can sign up if they would like to participate in this opportunity. 2007-09-21	5K Road Race	Wakefield High School's second annual 5-k road race and 1 mile fun walk will take place on Staurday October 13 at 9:00am. This race will start and finish at Wakefield High School. Registration is easy and can be done at the main office or at the next two home football games. 2007-09-12	Street Painting Festival	The Visual and Performing Arts Department would like to invite you to the annual STREET PAINTING FESITVAL September 21-22 in City Market in the Moore Square Art District. All festival events are FREE and open to the public. This is not your typical art festival. Moore Square and City Market will be filled with over 300 artists actually painting the street, using Martin Street in Moore Square as their canvas. There is no theme for this year's festival and the artists will have only 27 hours to complete their work. Our own Shawnda Rossi is a Featured Guest Artist for this event!!

2007-09-04	National Honor Society Applicants	Induction into the Wakefield National Honor Society will be October 10 at 7:00 PM. To be considered for NHS, a student must have attended WHS for one full semester and if a junior have earned a 3.8 weighted GPA and if a senior have earned a 3.6 weighted GPA. If elligible, a student must complete and submit the "Student Information Form" by September 12. Students may now download this form at the NHS site found in the club section of this website. 2007-09-04	Morehead-Cain Scholarship	Seniors, if you are interested in being considered for the prestigious UNC Morehead-Cain scholarship self-nomination forms will be made available starting 8/30 in the student services reception area. Be certain to attach your senior resume' when returning the self-nomination form. On Wednesday 9/5 after school at 2:25 to 2:45 there will be a brief meeting for seniors interested in learning more about the Morehead-Cain scholarship and the process for selection. 2007-08-27	PSAT	The PSAT will be administered on October 17th. Ninth and tenth grade students may register for the PSAT in Student Services starting Wednesday, September 5th before and after school or during their lunch. The cost is $13.00 for 9th and 10th grade students. There is no cost for the PSAT for juniors. Juniors are automatically registered and will receive their PSAT information booklet September 7th in their Advisory class.

2007-08-02	Parking Passes and Lunch Passes	All paperwork for parking and lunch passes must be received no later than 3 PM on 8/10 in order to draw spots on 8/16 and 8/17. If a student owes a fine, paperwork will not be processed until the fines are paid. No money will be accepted on the 16th and 17th. Make up date for parking and lunch passes is 8/23 from 9AM-3PM. Forms are on-line or in the main office.

2007-07-16	PSAT Information	The PSAT will be given at 7:25am on Wednesday, October 17, 2007. The test will be administered during the school day to all juniors at no cost. Sophomores and Freshmen wishing to test must pay the $13.00 registration fee between September 4 and September 21. Interested students may register in Student Services on the main campus and the counselor office area at Wakefield North. Payment is due at the time of registration. All checks should be made payable to Wakefield High School. PSAT bulletins will be distributed during homeroom in September to all juniors and given to others upon registration. Score reports are available in January. Juniors have an opportunity to qualify for possible college scholarships based on scores. Sophomores and Freshmen, especially those enrolled in Geometry and/or Honors English are encouraged to take the test for practice and familiarity. 2007-04-16	More Winter Guard Awards	Congratulations to the Maroon Winter Guard on their performances at Winter Guard International World Championships this past week in Dayton, Ohio. Finishing the season with the two best runs of the years, the guard finished 20th in the nation in the most competitive Scholastic A season in years. The guard had the highest score of any North Carolina guard, finishing ahead of Cary, Green Hope and Clayton from our local area. An incredibly appreciative and receptive audience greeted them in semifinals and the performance there was absloutely amazing. With the core of the guard returning and the other positions being filled by a strong group of younger students who already have experience in regional and regional final competition, the future for this team is incredibly bright. Thanks to everyone for their support throughout the season.

2007-03-26	Winter Guard Congratulations	Congratulations to the Maroon and Independent Winter Guards for their performances at the WGI Nashville Regional this past weekend. The Maroon winter guard won their round in prelims and finished 2nd in finals by a mere half point. The Independent guard had their best weekend of performances yet. They finished third in both prelims and finals to the number 1 and number 5 ranked Independent A Class guards in the nation. This weekend completes all WGI Regional and regular season events. The Maroon guard will enter WGI World Championships, the week after Easter, ranked number 10 in the nation in Scholastic A class and the Independent Guard will be ranked number 24 in Independent A class. By having both groups make finals, the Wakefield Winter Guard finished a season in which we saw 100% achievement of groups making finals at WGI regionals. This is an amazing accomplishment for our performers and their instructors.

2007-03-14	Spring Choral Concert	The Spring Coral Concert will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 7 PM in the auditorium at Wakefield HS. The evening will feature literature performed at recent festivals. In addition, each class will be performing a variety of literature on their own. Also, we are VERY happy to have Ms. Sally Albrecht as our accompanist for Thursday's concert. Ms. Albrecht is a widely known published composer, clinician and teacher in the choral community and has agreed to come work with us. She and her husband reside in the Wakefield community.

2007-03-07	WHS Women's Chorale	Yesterday, the Women's Chorale of Wakefield High School received a "Superior" rating in GRADE V Literature, from all three judges at the Eastern-District 1, Regional Large Ensemble Chorus Festival held at Merideth College. The Women's Chorale is comprised of both beginning Women's Chorus and the Advanced Women's Ensemble. They have been working very hard both in class and after school to represent the Wakefield High School Community with EXCELLENCE, PRIDE and PROFESSIONALISM. You have the opportunity to hear these women, along with the other choral ensembles of WHS next Thursday, March 15th at our Spring Choral Concert. The concert will begin at 7pm in the Auditorium.

2007-03-02	Registration for 2007-2008	Course Registration for the 2007-2008 school year will take place online March 15 - March 26. SPAN will be open for students to select courses. Students must return signed confirmation/verification sheets along with signed AP agreement forms to 1st period teachers by March 27. Students will be encouraged to complete this task with parents/guardians at home; however, they will have access to the Media Center during lunch, before and after school. Counselors will be assisting students in the Media Center during all lunches.
2007-02-28	Wolverine Lacrosse	Please come out and support our JV and varsity Lacrosse teams at 5:30pm and 7:30pm respectively, as we take on the Greensboro-Grimsley Whirlies Friday, March 2nd. 2007-02-26	Winter Guard Update	Congratulations to the Wakefield Winter Guards for their accomplishments at the New Jersey Winter Guard International Regional on Saturday. In their first ever regional, the Wakefield Silver Winter Guard, earned finalists status and finished 11th overall. Our Maroon Winter Guard, competing with several of the top guards in the nation, finished 3rd overall and received high compliments from audience and judges alike. Having two scholastic guards make finals at the same regional is an amazing accomplishment. We congratulate the members of both groups, Ms. Proctor and the other members of the instructional staff. The Silver guard will return to competition on March 10 at Clayton. All of the Wakefield Winter Guards will be in action on March 17, as we host the 7th WinterBlast! Winter Guard and Percussion Competition here at Wakefield.

2007-02-05	Maroon Winter Guard Ranked #1 in Nation	Congratulations to the Maroon Winter Guard for their performance on Saturday at the Winter Guard International Regional Championship in Richmond, Virigina. The guard won their round in prelims with the highest score overall. Their performance in finals was outstanding and earned them a 5 point jump in score from prelims to finals. After a third place finish at last year's Richmond regional, this year's guard took an outstanding step towards equaling last year's 13th place finish at World Championships by winning this year's regional. This is the first time that a Wake County High School guard has won a regional. The score from this performance has the Maroon Winter Guard currently ranked #1 in the nation . All four Wakefield Winter Guards will be in action again in two weeks at West Johnston High School.

2007-01-19	IMPORTANT EXAM MAKE UP INFORMATION	Due to the 2 hour delay for start of school on Friday, January 19th, 3rd period exams will be given on Friday from 9:25 AM- 12:25 PM. Buses will leave campus to take students home at 12:45 PM on Friday. Fourth period exams will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd from 7:25 AM to 10:10 AM. Buses will leave campus at 10:30 AM to take students home. Make-Up exams may take place after the 4th period exam on Tuesday, January 23rd, or at other arranged times between the teacher and student. Students remaining at school on Tuesday for exam make-ups must supply their own transportation home.

2006-11-21	To All Renaissance Lovers	Tickets for The first WHS Madrigal Dinner will go on sale during the week of November 27-December 1 during all three lunches. The performances will be the evenings of December 18, 19, and 20. Seating begins at 6:30 with a 7:00 PM processional. There are only 80 seats available for each performance, so get your tickets early. Tickets are $20.00 each. The Menu will consist of oven roated chicken, rice pilaf, parslied red potatoes, fresh tossed salad, green beans almondine, glazed appled, bread pudding, wassail, tea/coffee.

2006-11-06	Congratulations to the WHS Marching Band	Congratulations to the Marching Band for its performance on Saturday at the 48th Annual Cary Band Day. Competing in what was considered the most competitive class of the day, Class 4A, the band finished its season with an outstanding performance. The group earned awards for 1st place color guard, 1st place drum major, 3rd place percussion, 1st place overall effect, 1st place visual performance and 3rd place music. The band was awarded first place in Class 4A and was 2nd overall on the day of 28 bands, regardless of class. In addition the band earned 2nd place honors in the annual parade competition. This was the final competitive performance of the season for the marching band and completed one of the most successfull seasons in Wakefield Marching Band history.

We are pleased to announce that WHS's second annual NC State Fair garden was judged Friday, October 13th and beat Enloe and Wake County Gardeners to earn a blue ribbon! This year's theme was "Rainbow Rhapsody". We took a spin off of it and did a "Wizard of Oz" theme. So, check out our garden, next to the Village of Yesteryear. We have a fantastic yellow brick road that will definitely catch your eye. We're garden plot #22.

2006-10-05	Attention Sophomores and Freshmen ladies:	The local Wake Forest chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will sponsor another Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, beginning Saturday, October 14. The year long academy provides an opportunity for enrichment through education, leadership, and service learning. Activities include workshops, field trips and special cultural events, dinners and other group related activities. Any interested student can pick up an information form from Ms. Williams, Ms. Copeland, Ms. Perry or Ms. Kelly.

2006-09-29	Attention Seniors:	It was discovered that there was a technical problem with NCWISE and the senior class rank. This has been corrected. Any senior interested in receiving an updated copy of their transcript can come to student services and see their counselor for a copy. Those seniors who have already requested their information to be sent- colleges have been notified and a corrected transcript has been sent.
2006-09-29	Attention Juniors:	Please join us in the Wakefield High School Auditorium on Tuesday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m. for Junior Night. This program will focus on post-secondary planning and will feature a panel of admissions experts representing a range of various college/university options such as: public 4 year universities in the UNC system, a private/independent college, a historically black college/university and a 2 year community college. After our guest speakers present, the remainder of the program will be open to the audience to ask questions of our experts. Please join us to get a jump on college planning.

2006-09-15	Governor's School	Governor's School of North Carolina is a summer residential program for academically or intellectually gifted high school students. Governor's School is open primarily to juniors, with exceptions made for sophomores applying in the music or dance areas. There will be an informational meeting for students interested in applying for this program on Thursday, September 21st at 2:30 pm in the WHS Media Center.
2006-09-13	Free Movie Sponsored by WHS Student Government	ACTIVITY CARD HOLDERS Will be able to attend a “Free Movie” at Wakefield Cinemas on 9/15. The movie featured is GRIDIRON. This offer will be available to the first 225 students who return their permission slips during lunch on 9/15 in the commons area. The movie will start at 3:45 with doors opening at 3:15. Permission slips are available in the front office.
2006-09-13	PTSA General Membership Meeting Tuesday, 9/19	The Wakefield High School PTSA will hold their first general membership meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 19th in the Media Center. Following a short business meeting, representatives from "Friends of Wake County" will be on hand for two presentations - the critical importance of the November bond and the Wake County Schools facilities plan for pending new construction and renovations. The program will begin at 7pm and will be followed by a question and answer session. Come learn and ask questions so that you can make an informed decision in November.

2006-09-06	PSAT	The PSAT will be given during the school day on Wednesday, October 18th to all 11th graders free of charge and registraton is NOT requried. 9th and 10th graders who wish to take the PSAT are required to pay the $12 College Board fee. Please see Mrs. Auyong in Student Services either during your lunch or after school to pay your fee (make checks payable to Wakefield High School) and register for the PSAT between September 11th through September 29th. The deadline to register will be Friday, September 29th.

2006-05-16	Sports Physicals	Physicals will be given at school on Wednesday, May 17th beginning at 5:15pm. We will have 4 doctors participating with seperate lines for boys and girls. The cost is $25.00. Every athlete must have a physical on file with our athletic department before they can participate in any sport or workout for the summer. The physicals are open to Middle School students participating in spotrs.

2006-05-12	SPRING SOIREE	An evening of dessert, coffee and entertainment by WHS Chorus students. Students will be performing a variety of pop and musical theater selections as solos, duets and small groups. The event will be held in room 608, the Chorus room, Monday May 15 at 7pm. 2006-04-17	Freshman Homework Lab	The Freshman Wolverine Homework Lab is open to freshman students. The program is sponsored by the Ninth Grade Academy and Small Learning Community. The lab is designed to provide students a quiet place to go after school to get homework completed. The lab will be held on Tuesdays, beginning April 25th –May 29th from 2:30 – 4:30 pm in room 310.
2006-04-12	Seniors	Fill out the pink senior information form given out in homeroom. This information about scholarships, colleges and awards will be used for class night in June. Forms are due back to Ms Rowe in student services.
2006-04-11	Course Selection	Students, you are reminded to turn in your signed course selection sheet along with any level change forms and ap agreement forms to your first period teacher no later than Thursday of this week. The only exception will be students who are participating in Thursday morning?s registration. You have the option to complete registration from home or in the media center during lunch or after school. If you do not submit a course selection sheet, your courses will be selected for you and no changes will be permitted.
2006-04-07	Domino Day	Domino Day is a free event for clubs. Going into its twelth year, this drug and alcohol free event will include the legendary hunt for 10,000 hidden dominos. Domino Day provides a chance for your high school club to compete against others for a chance to win free money (no more illegal sales of food during lunch!!). Free pizza, drinks, activities, and a DJ are a part of this fun fundraising event. The event is Wednesday, April 19 at Pullen Park from 3:30-6. 2006-02-03	PTSA General Meeting February 22, 2006 @ 7:00 (Auditorium)	The guest speaker is Stan Norwalk who will present "Exploring Alternatives for School Funding". He is a columnist for the N&O and recently served on the Cary Growth Commission. He has done extensive research on school funding issues in North Carolina. Come learn more about how your school district is funded and what can be done to improve Wake County's ability to keep up with the growth issues. This presentation is very important to all Wake County taxpayers as we will be facing a school bond request this fall.
